Forges to Amboise

30th August 2015

A very comfortable night at Hotel La Paix, but we decided to get breakfast in the town, so kitted up and rode around the corner and found a little boulangerie serving take-away coffee and some very nice pastries.

A hot and sticky journey further south ensued, making our way out to Dreux via Les Andelys on a mixture of fine biking roads & tedious limits & speed humps through several villages.

After taking an age to do the first 100 miles, we got on faster 'N' roads from Chartres, stopping for a McD's lunch at Chateudun, desperate for a drink & a cool down, as temperatures hit 34 degs.

Suitably refreshed, it nevertheless remained a hot run down to Amboise via Vendome & Chateux Renault.

We located the Hotel Chaptal easily, locked the bike up in the street outside and got up to the room. No air con means it's going to be a sticky night.

A walk round the town, followed by a nice salad meal & a couple of Pelforths next to the fortress, before returning to the 'oven'!

The Road to Ronda 2015

Off we go again!

After the routine & uneventful run down to Dover, in decent weather, we get the P&O 12.05 to Calais.

Off the boat onto the A16 as far as Boulogne, then the old N1 to Abbeville. Slow going initially, but some lovely countryside.

A bit more autoroute up to Bangy, then a fuel stop & leg stretch before finishing the run to Forges les Eaux, via Neufchâtel. Great roads. Plenty of twists & turns through some picturesque valleys.

The Hotel La Paix in Forges is very nice. The village itself is quaint, but uninspiring, however there are one or two 'interesting' shops:

I think I sniffed a little too much!

After a few beers & a very good pizza & salad, we were done quite early. That's 350 miles on the road for you..........and a bit too much 'crack'!
